A French point of view, made for American travelers

France trip planning that feels less like a checklist — and more like France.

BonDetour is a France trip planner for Americans who want the famous places and the villages, markets, countryside and small detours that make a trip memorable. Tell us your dates, pace and interests, and we build a route that makes geographic sense.

Think of it as advice from your French friend.

Paris matters. So does everything between the big names.A good France itinerary is about choosing what to include — and what not to rush.
Why BonDetour

Built around how Americans actually travel in France.

France looks compact on a map, but the difference between a beautiful itinerary and an exhausting one often comes down to travel time, hotel changes and the order of your stops. BonDetour starts with the trip you want, then connects the pieces in a practical way.

I’m French and now live in the United States, so the service is designed around the questions I hear from American travelers: How many places can we realistically fit? When is a rental car worth it? Is a village detour really worth losing half a day? Which famous places deserve more time — and where can we slow down?

A BonDetour itinerary aims for:

  • Fewer unnecessary hotel changes
  • Less backtracking between regions
  • A realistic pace for your travel style
  • Iconic destinations plus local France
  • Road-trip detours only when they are worth it
  • Useful food, market and stay-area guidance
How it works

Start with your trip, not a generic template.

Your itinerary is shaped around your dates, arrival and departure points, must-see places, pace, transportation preferences and the kind of France you want to experience.

Beyond Paris

France is better when the route leaves room for the places between the headlines.

Many first trips understandably start with Paris, Provence, the Riviera, Normandy, Bordeaux or the Loire Valley. BonDetour can include those icons while also looking for the smaller experiences that fit naturally along your route: a market town, a scenic road, a medieval village, a regional food stop or an extra night somewhere that deserves it.

The goal is not to make every trip “off the beaten path.” It is to make the trip feel personal. If the Louvre and Versailles are essential to you, they belong. If you would rather spend an afternoon in a village market than add another monument, the itinerary should reflect that too.

Good to know

Questions American travelers often have.

Is BonDetour a travel agency?

No. BonDetour is a travel-planning service. We help you shape the itinerary, but you stay in control of your flights, hotels, transportation and reservations.

Can you plan a first trip to France?

Yes. First-time trips are a strong fit because we can balance the must-see destinations with a pace that avoids turning the trip into a race.

Do I need to rent a car?

Not always. Your transportation preference is part of the planner. Some routes work beautifully by train; others become much more rewarding with a car for a portion of the trip.

Can I include places I already chose?

Absolutely. Add the destinations that are non-negotiable for you and BonDetour will build around them rather than replacing them with a generic route.
